Good to know

Raté is the everyday choice in speech. Manqué is also correct and slightly more formal. Both work for buses, flights and appointments.

Correct
J'ai raté mon train
What people say wrong
Mon train me manque
I'm pining for my train
The mistake to avoid. Manquer has two meanings that work in opposite directions. Missing a train, a class or a call is direct: j'ai manqué mon train, or more casually j'ai raté mon train. Missing someone or something emotionally flips the sentence round: mon train me manque means my train is missing from me, so you are pining for it. It is the same trap as tu me manques, I miss you.

J'ai raté le dernier métro.
