Quelle déception ! (What a disappointment!) is a very common reaction, and je suis déçu(e) is the everyday way to say you are disappointed.
Correct
On m'a trompé(e)
What people say wrong
J'ai été déçu(e)
I was disappointed
The mistake to avoid. Déception is a false friend. In French it means disappointment, and déçu means disappointed, so j'ai été déçu tells people you were let down, not lied to. To say you were deceived, use tromper: on m'a trompé, or il m'a menti (he lied to me). Careful in a relationship, though: il m'a trompée means he cheated on me.
In context
J'ai été très déçu par le film.
I was very disappointed by the film.
Il m'a trompé sur le prix.
He misled me about the price.
Ne sois pas déçue, on réessaiera.
Don't be disappointed, we'll try again.
