Good to know
A woman says je suis prête, and the t is then pronounced: /pʁɛt/. For a group, it is prêts, or prêtes if everyone is female. The spelling is prêt with a circumflex. The circumflex marks an s that French dropped long ago. In Old French, the word was spelled prest.
Correct
Je suis prêt(e)
What people say wrong
Je suis prêt pour commander
Before a verb, use prêt à instead.
The mistake to avoid. Before a verb, the usual choice is prêt à. Je suis prêt à partir means I'm ready to leave. Prêt pour is fine before a noun: je suis prêt pour l'examen. In a restaurant, the full sentence is nous sommes prêts à commander, but in everyday speech you will often hear on peut commander ? or on est prêts. A second thing to watch: prêt is also a noun meaning a loan, and près, with a grave accent, means near. They sound alike, so the spelling matters when you write.
In context
Je suis prête, on peut y aller.

Nous sommes prêts à commander.
