Privacy Policy

LanguaCards Ltd ("we", "us", or "our") operates the LanguaCards mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and your rights regarding your data.

By using the App you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Account information

When you create an account we collect:

  • Email address — used to identify your account and send important service communications.
  • Display name — the name you choose to show in the App.
  • Authentication provider data — if you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive a unique identifier and email address from the provider. We do not receive or store your Google or Apple password.

1.2 Learning and profile data

To personalise your experience we store:

  • Your CEFR level selection and topics of interest.
  • Vocabulary progress, session history, and spaced-repetition scores.
  • Custom vocabulary packs and flashcards you create.
  • Your preferred number of cards per session.
  • Feedback messages you submit through the App.

1.3 Subscription and purchase data

If you subscribe to LanguaCards Pro, purchase information is processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store. We receive a confirmation of your subscription status but do not have access to your full payment details (e.g. credit card number). We use RevenueCat to manage subscription entitlements (see Section 3).

1.4 Device and usage data

We automatically collect:

  • Analytics events — such as screens viewed, features used, session duration, and subscription actions. These help us understand how the App is used and where to improve.
  • Session replays — we record anonymised replays of App sessions to diagnose bugs and improve the user experience. Text input fields and images may be captured in replays.
  • Push notification token — if you opt in to notifications, we store a device token to deliver messages through Firebase Cloud Messaging.

1.5 Information we do not collect

  • Precise location data.
  • Contacts, photos, or files from your device.
  • Health, financial, or biometric data.

2. How we use your information

3. Third-party services

We use the following third-party services to operate the App. Each has its own privacy policy governing data it processes:

3.1 Firebase (Google)

We use Firebase for authentication, database storage (Cloud Firestore), and push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging). Data is processed in accordance with Google's privacy policy.

3.2 RevenueCat

We use RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions. RevenueCat receives your anonymous user identifier and email address to track subscription entitlements. See the RevenueCat privacy policy.

3.3 PostHog

We use PostHog for product analytics and session replay. PostHog processes usage events and session recordings to help us improve the App. See the PostHog privacy policy.

3.4 Google Play and Apple App Store

Purchases are handled by the respective app store. We do not process or store your payment method details. Please refer to Google's privacy policy or Apple's privacy policy for how they handle payment data.

4. Data storage and security

Your data is stored in Google Cloud (via Firebase) and is protected with industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. We restrict access to personal data to authorised personnel only.

Custom vocabulary packs you create are stored privately under your user account and are not visible to other users.

5. Data retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the App. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain certain records (e.g. transaction records for tax purposes).

Analytics data and session replays are retained for up to 12 months and then automatically deleted.

6. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights under applicable data protection laws (including the UK GDPR and EU GDPR):

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure — ask us to delete your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Restriction — ask us to restrict how we process your data.
  • Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

7. Children's privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

8. International data transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your country of residence, including the United States (where Google Cloud and other service providers operate). Where such transfers occur, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

9. Subscriptions

LanguaCards Pro is available as an auto-renewing subscription. Important details:

  • Payment is charged to your Google Play or Apple App Store account at confirmation of purchase.
  • Your subscription automatically renews unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
  • You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your device's app store settings:
    • Google Play: Settings > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions
    • Apple: Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions
  • Refunds are handled by the respective app store in accordance with their refund policies.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you through the App. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
